Hunter/Jumper Show Coaching
Hunter/jumper show coaching from a Whitehouse Station, New Jersey barn with National Championship titles on the board.
Showing here is treated as a result of good horsemanship, not a substitute for it. Riders who show well at this barn can also bring a horse back to the barn sound, cool him out properly and tell you why the third fence went wrong. That order matters.
01 Level
Local through national level
Riders here compete from schooling shows through rated competition. Mandi Zwaan has earned multiple National Championship titles, and that experience shapes how the program prepares riders — not because everyone is aiming that high, but because knowing what the top of the sport demands changes how you teach the bottom of it.
A first schooling show is planned as carefully as a championship. The difference is the goal, not the preparation.
02 Coaching
What show coaching covers
- Building a season plan that fits the horse, the rider and the budget
- Preparing horse and rider together in the weeks before, not the morning of
- Walking the course and making a plan you can actually execute
- Support at the ring on the day
- Going through afterwards what worked and what did not, honestly
- Managing a horse through a long day away from home
03 Horsemanship
Learning to run a show day
A rider who can only perform when someone else has braided, loaded, warmed up and told them when to go is not really ready. Riders here learn to manage the day — timing the warm-up, keeping a horse comfortable between classes, and staying level when the schedule falls apart, which it does.
04 Getting started
Getting started in the show ring
Most riders come to showing through lessons here, often on a leased horse before they own one. There is no minimum standard to start; there is a conversation about whether you and the horse are ready for the division you have in mind, and we will tell you if we think you are not.
Collegiate riders should see our IHSA page — the format is different enough to need its own preparation.
05 Next step
